"Jesus Christ, what else can happen?"
Mark Michener
"Don't answer that!"
Danielle Michener
So, as you can see it's not been a very good weekend. Uncle Bob had died last week, not unexpectedly as he had lung cancer and decided (good for him!) to go for quality over quantity and opted out of chemo. Before church yesterday Carolyn found her hamster dead in his cage and she was sad. After church I get a call from Mark while Carolyn & I were leaving church that Phil found Uli (our cat) dead under the couch for no apparent reason. The kids are a wreck. Fey (the othercat) keeps walking around the house crying for her sister which just sets the kids off again. The Maxima's check engine light is on and has been since Friday which means nothing good and the earliest appointment I can get to the shop is tomorrow morning and the guy said to drive it as little as possible. Gee, I wonder if going to New Milford counts as "little as possible. "
Hope you are all having a much better week...

Oh no.. poor Uli. I'm so sorry. I wonder what happened. All I can say is that it happens in 3's so you should be all set for a while.
You need to get another kitten right away for poor Fey.
Who is uncle Bob???
We are all set to book an all inclusive to Cancun for July... I know I said I would never go there again but the deals are unbelieveable. But now I don't know what to do with the swine flu and I need to tell her today as the JetBlue special expires.
Um-a bunch of New York students have the swine flu and they went to Cancun for their spring break. It was a very mild case, but still. I expect an email from hospital president when I go into work tonight about the swine flu and an email from the CDC telling hospitals what to do etc... I'll let you know tomorrow what they say. It could be over by July or it could be pandemic (as if it isn't already) by that point and we'd most likely have it here in CT too. That is a tough call-sorry.
Uncle Bob (who I have only met a handful of times) is Carroll's sister (Aunt Miriam)'s husband.
My inlaws (who are very sick by the way with fevers and sniffles) didn't want to spring for airline tickets out to Iowa for the memorial service so they were going to leave tomorrow and drive
4 days out, spend 2 days there and drive 4 days back. Christ-I tried to book them airpline tickets and pay for it too, but they wouldn't accpet them. Kitty just called me a little while ago to say they weren't going as they still weren't feeling up to it. I can only thank the powers that be for giving good sense.
Dan, sorry to hear about all the sadness in the Michener household. Hang in there!! Thanks for the Monday quote, I could not have topped that one.
Lynn, what about the other problems in Mexico. I know many college were issuing travel warnings about Mexico because of the violence. I'm pretty sure it included Cancun. Keep us posted.
Nancy...are you there?
Lynn, CDC said if you don't have to travel to Mexico at this time, don't. I don't know about July. We have a whole host of things to look out for. It's basically like the regular flu (type A) which is part of what we test for (A&B) on a regular basis. So far everyone who has been suspected has been negative.
They can't figure out what is wrong with the car, only that it was down 2.5 quarts of oil but cannot find a leak anywhere (no in the engine or on the ground). We have to drive it for another 1000 miles and go back to have it checked again. What a scam! I told him to go buy a truck.
Unease at GE these days. He thought he was good for a year or
2, now he's not even sure of the next 6 months. High manangers went to Dallas again today and found out where and who they were reporting to. Not looking good. Another part of the company lost between 10-15 million dollars and now they are looking to Mark's group to make it up. mark says they themselves are only doing 85% of plan, so he has no idea how hes' supposed to come up with an extra 10 mil. The pressure is on!
Never ends...
Wow sorry for the sadness in the Michener household! My brother broke his hand yesterday diving to catch a softball which he ended up dropping after he landed on his hand. Work is still crazy...Lynn how is yours?
We put the trip on hold for now. Everyone here is telling me to go ahead and book it and it should all be over by July... but you never know. I'm going to get the passports anyway, just in case. It's good to have them. I figure when this all blows over the rates still will be good. The Dominican is also a choice but this place was just so beautiful. We weren't too concerned about the crime as we are not really in cancun but the riveria maya at a self-contained resort that we wouldn't leave.
Deb... does Al need valium yet?
I am going to the doctor here today because I keep having what I think is heart palpitations. The stress at work is almost unbearable right now.:(
