Monday's Quote 9/28/09

"Work is not man's punishment. It is his reward and his strength and his pleasure." George Sand

I picked this after reading way too much AP Psy! A's job sucks again. I think I am PMSing and did the NJ thing today with critical Gerri. I am looking forward to work tomorrow while my family is home.

Have a great week!

I'll say...that is a serious quote.

I think I have to tell my mother soon that she needs to stop driving @ night. How do I go about this is a nice way?

Does anyone know anything about dimmensia...not sure I am spelling it right but my Mom seems to be having trouble with some basic things and again I am not sure how to approach this with her or her doctor? My brother says that I am overreacting which may be partly true but Norb agrees with me and he and I spend more time with her than my brother does.

Welcome to my Nance. You are probably right. Alan's mom is not what she used to be. We keep an eye on her and encourage in town driving only. Maybe you could go to her doctor with her. Usually they realize they are struggling. We always try to be honest with Ruth. Good luck.

I don't have anything for you Nance other than it's spelled dementia and it's usually senile dementia. It can be a precursor to Alzheimer's (if she is leaving things in strange places or talking to people who are not there)- which does not sound like
what your mom is doing or just old age. You can always talk with her doctor by having him call you and you can voice your concerns to him. He would know best what is going on.

Nancy,

I would take her to the doctor and have her evaluated. There are some drugs which can delay the progression if it is something more that just normal aging.

The hard part is getting her there. If she has a primary doctor, you can try starting there with a phone call and see what he suggests. If not, look for a doc that specialized in geriatric medicine.

Good Luck.

I just found out on Tuesday that I have the chicken pox. I never had it as a child and must have been exposed to someone who had the chicken pox or shingles. I am working from home and am so depressed and ugly.

ok Nance, you are never ugly!!!!! but I would be depressed too with chicken pox as a forty year old.
Those red round annoying pustules will eventually go away. Weren't we just talking about this when we were out last month that you hadn't gotten the chicken pox? Weird. Well, welcome to the club.

Sorry Nance. Hang in there! It will be over before you know it...remember not itching them or you will scar (a famous Gerri saying).

Oh no. At least it's not the shingles! Since all kids get the shot now I wonder how you got it. Maybe you will be in the record books.

Hang in there and tell Norb to be extra nice to you. Lot's of ice cream can't hurt.
