Monday's Quote 3/2/09

"Getting an inch of snow is like winning 10 cents in the lottery."
-Bill Watterson

Enjoy your Monday's snow. Here at our home the caretaker has finally been brought down by the sick. I am feeling the effects of illness so a day at home would be good, making it up in June is the downside. Other than illness, we are good.

Enjoy the snow!

oooh, that was a good one Deb!

Had to work last night, but made it home ok. At least the snow started later than it was supposed to. Still very slippery.

Had layoffs at the hospital last Friday, but no one from the lab. We are in a hiring freeze so all the jobs that we still need to fill (in the lab) won't be. Good for me as I'll have to keep filling in. There aren't enough techs to work as it is. We are getting rid of the cardiac catheter unit. State said the bare minumum requirement to keep it open said we had to have done at least 36 angioplasties within 2 years and we only did 26, so the state is mandated to shut it down. Honestly, it sucked up so much money keeping it running. We always has to have 8 units of platelets on hand in case someone came in and needed them, and they almost always ended up in the garbage for a total of $128,000 a year of wasted money, not to mention the waste of platelets which are usually in short supply.
We won't even commnet on the fact that we had to pay a team 24/7 of doctors or cardiac nurses to be on call. I think the loss was 1.5 mil a year. Glad to see it go!

We don't have much hot water. Something is wrong with the heating coil, so I have to have the guy come out and replace it. He won't be able to get up the driveway anytime soon now. We'll have to wait for a thaw.

Not much else is new. Plenty of new snow. Even the kids are tired of it. We all need spring. I think we need to go out soon. What say you?!?

Hope you feel better soon Deb. I'm at work and all my kids and parents are home... it's a beautiful thing. The girls are fighting nonstop and I am about to sentence them all to solitary confinement until college.

Emily is really the problem. Deb, I'm sure you can relate to this. She had the worst ear infection ever last week complete with a burst ear drum and a visit to a specialist and the doctor put her on steriods. She is a bear and is just instigating everyone.

Layoffs are everywhere.. except Purdue, thank god. Jay got laid off a few weeks ago. That should be interesting.

Nothing else new here... just the neverending winter blaahs.

Watched Burn after Reading with Ed this weekend. It was funnier with you guys...

I forgot to wish you were better Deb, sorry.

Deb is on the mend. Jordan has the cold and of course Tyler caught it too. Saw the pulmonoligist again. Changing meds again and the beat goes on...

School is good. Sooooo tired of snow and cold! Aren't we due to celebrate something?? Someone is being born right now...can we celebrate that?

Sorry to hear about Emily, those drugs are awful. Tyler is a beast when he takes them. The mood ususally lingers too!! Hope she has improved.

I'm in for a night out. I'm off the 14th but on the 21st and the robotics competition is the 28th so...if not the 14th then I'll have to catch up in April, or else Friday or Sunday.

Well, we're going to need an entire new hot water system. Something called an indirect system. It should be installed next Tuesday to the tune of a bunch of money. Our boiler guy said the silt problem would keep happening every few years. So, if we had replaced this again, it would be our 3rd heating coil and we'd need to do it again in a few years. Easy come, easy go...money that is. The house heard we booked a vacation and wanted a bit too for itself.

How is everyone faring during the CT Misery Tests as my children like to call them. We have to send in only healthy snacks with no sugar in them and nothing to drink because they don't want bathroom breaks. So, I sent Phil in with almonds and the teacher sent me a note saying her room was a peanut free classroom and I can't send almonds in anymore. We won't even get into it that peanuts are vegetables and not nuts. I think I had blogged about the valentine's day party where we couldn't send in sweets (cupcakes or cookies and no candy with the valentines the kids gave to each other). If not that is a story in itself. I can't wait until we are out of elementary school.

Nothing else is new. What say you all on a night out? Blog soon.
