A New Little Story...

I will begin a story and would like you all to add to it. Let's see how creative the hot 40 somethings can be. (Yes I am a little bored, work is slow).

Once upon a time in a quiet little town in the country there lived ...

Kathryn Kirschner and Matthew Morell were enjoying their first week of summer vacation. Each was walking lazily around the old goldfish pond trying to see who could toss their rocks furthest into the now mud hole that used to be a clear and beautiful gold fish pond. That was of course before the factory came into town a few years back and polluted everything within a mile of its ground. Now the factory was defunct (no longer in use) and it took away the beauty of so many things in the area. What was once a large park with a goldfish pond, swings, trees, benches and people was now a barren wasteland. No one could do anything with the land because the officials said it was contaminated. Kathryn’s mother would call it seconds, the stuff that came from the making of the firsts. The kids in the town called it “The Waste”. As they saw it the factory came and took away everything they thought was fun.

Of course in the beginning everyone thought the factory was great, So many new jobs, money into the town and the promises of keeping the park beautiful and providing new equipment for the children who played there. The factory was welcomed with open arms and jubilant (very happy) workers came in droves to seek much needed money. And in fact, the factory did keep their initial promises. So many new jobs opened up. The park remained beautiful and a new playground went up with speed. Much of the town was happy for a long time.
People spent money, more businesses opened up and a fast food restaurant even considered moving into town.

But all good things, even in this case, came to an end. No one really could pinpoint a time when the factory people started to become sick. The Doctor’s didn’t know what was wrong with the workers and told them to start taking vacations as they had been working too long and hard. It soon became clear that all was not right in the factory. Fenced in pipes were erected outside the factory and trucks came and went day and night hauling away stuff no one thought to ask. The trees that surrounded the factory lost their leaves and the crystal clear goldfish pond turned brown. No one could explain what had happened and the factory “officials” (people who are supposed to know what is going on) couldn’t explain it.
They decided to close the factory and move away from town. Meanwhile, people lost their jobs, more people moved away and the town became as it was before the factory, small, poor and rundown. The only difference was now they had no park for the children who remained to play in.

This is where we pick up our story again with friends Kathryn and Matt who were casting their rocks into the now dry and muddy old goldfish pond to see who could throw it the farthest toward the middle.
“Sort of like a bulls-eye,” said Kathryn who cast her stone farther than Matt.
“Yeah,” said Matt who clearly wasn’t happy that Kathryn had a better arm. “Keep trying, I’m going to beat you yet,” he said.
“Oh Matt,” said Kathryn, “It’s always a contest with you,” and she sighed. “Just think how beautiful this used to be with the goldfish swimming and the breezes blowing. Now all you can do is smell something funny around here and see what a waste it all is.”

Gee, I was thinking,
"a man named Al who woke up every night from April 1 until mid May in a cold sweat screaming "their cutting too much, their cutting too much"

(sorry I couldn't resist)
Congratulate Al for me on his front page quote. It's so nice to have friends that make the paper for something other than Police Blotter.

Thank you Dan. I will let Al know you read his quote. He is supposed to be sworn in on the Board of Ed in May. He is taking Pat O's seat. That means you have to vote for him in the Fall.
